When was the last time you tried to talk with someone about political, social, or environmental issues who didn’t already agree with you. How well did it go?
Breaking Through Gridlock: The Power of Conversation in a Polarized World, authored by our cofounder Gabriel Grant and his colleague Jason Jay, is based on leadership pedagogy that has been iteratively developed at Byron Fellowship to help change leaders powerfully navigate conversations that are beyond the choir of likeminded advocates.
Our fellows have put these tools to use in their own work and a few who are university faculty have made the pedagogy available in their own classrooms. Today the work is in use in more than a dozen universities including University of Michigan, Cornell, and MIT. The May 22 book release will make this work more accessible to anyone working to create a better world.
“This book is not for the faint-hearted, but if you truly want to change the world, it gives us the tools and the inspiration to do so.“
— Gwen Ruta, Senior Vice President, Climate and Energy, Environmental Defense Fund
“Our country’s future depends on our ability to reach beyond our echo chambers. Jay and Grant guide us through starting the conversations so crucial to our democracy.”
— Van Jones, CNN Cohost, Author, and Activist
