Congratulations to 2009 Byron Fellow Christopher Reinhart for recently receiving the prestigious Udall Scholarship. Reinhart, a Ball State University architecture major, was among only 80 scholars selected out of a record number of 585 applicants this spring, for his work in the natural building profession and commitment to a career in sustainable architecture. The Udall Scholarship, among the nation’s most important environmental scholarships, grants recipients a $5,000 scholarship for demonstrated leadership practices, a commitment to an environmentally minded career path, and academic excellence.
During the last decade Chris has been active in the natural building profession, leading many workshops throughout Indiana for individuals hoping to learn about building with earth, straw bales and other natural materials. With the support of the Udall Scholarship, Chris will finish his undergraduate work at Ball State, and intends to pursue a Masters of Architecture degree with the aspiration of establishing an architecture firm that utilizes natural building materials, reduces waste, and brings environmentally sustainable design to underserved communities.
Congrats, Chris on this well earned accomplishment! We look forward to seeing what you create as you continue to pursue your dreams and vision.
