As the Environmental Justice Programs Manager at Air Alliance Houston (AAH), Genesis (they/them) tackles legal and regulatory processes impacting air quality and emphasize meaningful community engagement. Through managing and mentoring the Environmental Justice team, Genesis fosters partnerships and guides advocacy efforts to address the public health impacts of air pollution and climate change. Genesis is also involved in internal organizational changes, promoting self-care and collective care through initiatives like wellness stipends and holistic care opportunities. Raised in the bordertown of El Paso, Genesis’ journey to Houston was fueled by a commitment to ensuring that individuals have access to information and autonomy in decision-making; for the past decade, Genesis has created spaces that support care and autonomy in their communities. Ultimately, Genesis aspires to co-create practices that acknowledge and transform grief from systemic violence and climate catastrophes into strength and connection within communities.
